Let Teachers Teach and Support the Education Community

Hunter knows that teachers perform their best when they are not overshadowed by hawkish micromanagement made from a boardroom. Board members are here for vision, big-picture decisions, and high-level oversight, and not to micromanage everyday functions.

Hunter supports and respects the collective bargaining and other labor rights of school staff. When teachers and staff feel supported in their own personal lives by the district, they bring more positivity, effort, and energy to our buildings every day. That leads to better outcomes for students.

Protect Students and Staff from External Threats

Hunter is a fighter in standing up to those who try to harm students and staff, whether that be legislating to deny those who try to discriminate or being strong against those who threaten physical and emotional harm. And, as someone who spent 20+ years as a student who never knew a world without mass violence against education centers, he knows the weight that parents and students shoulder. We cannot rely on federal and state leaders to solve these problems, and we must do our part as a school district to lead.

Empower Student Leaders, Expect Excellence, and Embrace Critical Thinking

When adults embrace a culture of accountability to one another, students will feel empowered to hold each other accountable to the same golden rule. Healthy habits and social contracts reinforced by peers hold greater weight today and build responsible citizens for tomorrow.

Mainstream culture has instilled a shadow of complacency over what communities expect from the next generation. As a district, we have a responsibility to change that and to expect excellence from students in the track they take — whether that is more demanding and realistic preparation for college, or earlier pathways towards the trades or elsewhere in the workforce.

In a rapidly changing world, we need to prepare students to think critically about truth and intelligence. Let’s make sure that students are information literate, not just traditionally literate, so that they can confront falsehoods and always compete for jobs in an ever-changing world. Let us recognize that A.I. is not a solution; it is a tool that can be used in negative and destructive ways as much as it can be used for good.
